Your whole budget in one tab
Simple Budget keeps your whole budget in one tab. Plan what you expect to earn and spend, add each payment as it happens, and the totals, progress bars and charts update by themselves. A chart shows your spending by category. No formulas to write or extra budgeting app to learn.
Start in 3 easy steps
- Set it upPick your currency, how often you get paid and the start date, then type the money in your account and its date.
- Plan your budgetType your categories and how much you plan for each one: Income, Savings, Bills & Subscriptions, Debts and Expenses.
- Track every paymentAdd each payment in or out and pick its category from the list. The Budget page updates right away. If a payment needs fixing, a red word on Transactions tells you to check its date, category or amount.

Questions
Do I need Microsoft Excel?
No. Google Sheets is free with a Google account; on a phone, use the free Google Sheets app. If you prefer Excel, the Excel files are included too: a blank file and an example.
How do I get my copy in Google Sheets?
Open the PDF you download, click the button and then "Use template". A copy is saved in your own Google Drive.
Which currencies can I use?
Any. Pick one from the list or type your own currency sign. The amounts stay as you type them: the template does not convert exchange rates.
Can I change the categories?
Yes. Type your own category names and planned amounts. Use each name once: a name used twice turns red. You can have up to 35 categories, with names up to 30 characters.
Can I use it again next month?
Yes. When your next budget starts, change only the start date on Settings. Your balance carries over by itself, and your past payments stay in the list. Your planned amounts are reused for each new budget; separate copies of past plans are not saved. One copy holds 400 payments in total, across all your budgets. When the list is full, start a fresh blank copy, set up your categories and planned amounts again, and enter your current account balance and its date. Keep your old file for your past payments.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. Setting up and tracking both work on a phone: open your copy in the Google Sheets or Excel phone app. Budget shows everything in one column, so you type your categories and plans right there, and on Transactions the date, category and amount fit the screen. The bars and charts sit to the right, as an extra wide view on a computer.
