Save a little, watch it add up

Four popular savings challenges in one file, plus your own goals. On 100 Envelopes and 365 Days you save the amount of each number, in any order. On 52 Weeks you save once a week, and on 26 Paychecks you save every two weeks, for a biweekly payday, from the start date you choose. Mark each save (a checkbox in Google Sheets, an x in Excel): it fills with color and your totals update. The Dashboard shows every challenge and goal: the goal, what you saved and how far you are.

Start in 3 easy steps

  1. Pick a challengeDo one or more. Set the amount on its tab (and the start date and order on 52 Weeks and 26 Paychecks). Set the amount before you start: changing it later recalculates saves already marked. For 52 Weeks and 26 Paychecks, choose the order before you start too.
  2. Mark each saveEach time you save, tap the checkbox in Google Sheets or type x in Excel. It fills with color and the totals update by themselves.
  3. Watch it growThe Dashboard shows every challenge and goal. Not sure what to save next? Suggested next picks a number you have not saved yet.

Questions

How much will I save?

With the amount set to 1, envelope 1 saves 1, envelope 2 saves 2 and so on, and 100 Envelopes adds up to 5,050. On 52 Weeks, Step up (1, 2, 3 ... 52) or Step down (52, 51, 50 ... 1) adds up to 1,378, and Same amount (1 each week) to 52. 26 Paychecks adds up to 351 with Step up (1,755 with the example's amount of 5, as in the pictures). With 365 Days set to 0.01, day 1 saves 0.01, day 2 saves 0.02 and so on, up to 3.65 on day 365: 667.95 in total. For 100 Envelopes, 52 Weeks and 26 Paychecks, an amount of 0.5 makes each save half as much as an amount of 1. You can also set the amount to 10 or 100 if one unit of your currency is worth little.

Do I need Microsoft Excel?

No. Google Sheets is free with a Google account; on a phone, use the free Google Sheets app. If you prefer Excel, the Excel files are included too: a blank file and an example.

How do I get my copy in Google Sheets?

Open the PDF you download and tap a button: a blank copy or an example. Then tap "Use template". A copy is saved in your own Google Drive.

Can I start 52 Weeks or 26 Paychecks any time?

Yes. Type your start date and all the dates fill in from there. Set the amount and the order before you start: a later change recalculates what is already marked.

Does the Dashboard add up all my savings?

It shows the totals of each tracker, not separate deposits: the same money can appear in more than one challenge or in a goal.

Which currencies can I use?

Any. Pick one from the list on Settings or type your own currency sign. The amounts stay as you type them: there is no exchange-rate conversion.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Open your copy in the Google Sheets or Excel phone app. Each tab shows what you type and read first, so you can mark each save right there. The bars sit to the right and are easiest to see on a computer.
