See your debt-free date

List your debts once, add the extra you can pay each month and pick a method. The planner works out the month you will be debt-free, the interest you will pay and how much you save compared with paying only the minimums. It also shows what to pay on each debt this month, and the Plan tab shows your payments month by month, for up to 20 years.

This is a forward-looking planner, not a payment history. After each month's payments, update your balances and move "Plan starts" to the next month. The plan recalculates from there; past months are not saved.

Start in 3 easy steps

  1. List your debtsOn Debts, for each debt: its balance now, the interest rate per year (type 22.9 for 22.9 %) and the minimum payment. A starting balance for the progress bar is optional.
  2. Choose your planType the extra you can pay each month, pick Snowball (smallest balance first) or Avalanche (highest interest rate first) and the month of your next payment.
  3. Follow itDebts shows what to pay on each debt this month and the month you will be debt-free. When a debt is paid off, its payment moves to the next debt by itself, so you keep paying the same total.

Questions

Snowball or Avalanche: which one?

Snowball pays the smallest balance first, so you see a debt disappear sooner. Avalanche pays the highest interest rate first, which usually costs less interest. Switch between them in one click and compare the dates and the interest.

Are the numbers exact?

They are estimates. Your lender may count interest, fees and rounding a little differently. Update your balances each month after paying and the plan moves with you. If paying only the minimums does not clear your debts within the comparison period, the interest-saved figure shows "Cannot compare." This is a planning tool, not financial advice.

What if I pay more one month?

If you make a one-off extra payment, type your new balances under Balance now after paying and move "Plan starts" to the next month. The plan recalculates. Keep Extra per month set to what you expect to pay regularly, not just the extra you paid once.

What do I do when a debt is paid off?

Type 0 under Balance now and keep its minimum payment filled in. The planner then moves that freed-up amount to your next debt by itself.

Do I need Microsoft Excel?

No. Google Sheets is free with a Google account; on a phone, use the free Google Sheets app. If you prefer Excel, the Excel files are included too: a blank file and an example.

How do I get my copy in Google Sheets?

Open the PDF you download and tap a button: a blank copy or an example. Then tap "Use template". A copy is saved in your own Google Drive.

Which currencies can I use?

Pick one from the list on Settings or type your own currency sign. The plan rounds to cents, so it suits currencies with 2 decimals. It does not convert between currencies.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Open your copy in the Google Sheets or Excel phone app. Each tab shows what you type and read first: your debts, the extra, the method and your debt-free date fit the screen. The progress bars and the chart sit to the right and are easiest to see on a computer.
